What is this? Where are we at?
Hey all! I made this itch page for my yet to be released, or even named game, with the reason of wanting to post devlogs to garner some people and get some feedback around this project
But first, who am I?
Well my username is Quacked Up, or QuackedUp, or qakdp or just Quack, or any of the other billion variations of this name I've come up with. I am a full time student, studying IT, and a hobbyist game developer and photographer (god, i still need to make a photography site). I have participated in a few game jams in the past, which you can see on my profile. I don't think most of those games are good, but they were a good learning experience. My latest game here is almost 3 years old, and there is nothing newer, why? Well, life happened, and I still was working on projects, but none of those have seen the light of day, UNTIL TODAY! (Also one of my all time favorite photograph I have taken)
What is this game?
Alright, enough chit-chat, what actually is this game? I was inspired by Papers, Please to make a simple game, and mostly tell a story. Later Emily is Away joined to inspire the style of the game, and recently Va-11 Hall-a also joined to inspire more of the story and atmosphere.
You are living in a country controlled by a dictatorship in the modern or slight future. You are hired to become an Internet-Janitor, or a Web Inspector. The role of this job is to scour the web and remove any content you find that speaks ill of your great leader. You MIGHT also will need to dox the poster so the authorities can teach them a "lesson", you'd do this by getting their IP, check it against a public list of VPN IPs, if they aren't using a VPN then check the IP's location and other similar stuff. But this is just an idea, it might be too complex for a simple project (maybe a sequel :P) You'd wake up, get to work on cleaning up the web, get money, not die of hypothermia, smoke a cigarette out the balcony maybe, sleep. This is the basic gameplay loop. Of course you don't have to work for the dictatorship, you could work against them, help in organizing a revolution, just you know, in secret. You'd also get specific sites or posters sent to you for you to investigate, but you also have the chance of exploring the internet for yourself and banning users that way.
Where are we?
Some of the frameworks have been made already, like the program windows, and app downloading. So the main desktop for controlling the game is alrightly done. Here is all that is done:
So in the video I first open the PDA, the app store basically, from there I download RedFox, the browser in which most of the game will take place. I also show that the windows are moveable. Then I go to the website cat.cat, which just has the same picture as the background. Showing and hiding windows works, closing and uninstalling also work. And the way I set it up, new apps and websites and the such are easy to make, these are just the frameworks basically. I will probably make some devlogs about explaining them in the future, or maybe when I revamp them. (Also the cat in the picture is my cat, you will se a lot of him :)
What next?
The game is in really early stages of development so far, next I want to work on the social media website, and work out a good framework for the posts. But a lot needs to be done if I even want to call it close to done. I will also want to write more in depth devlogs about specific mechanics, but this is a good starting point. That's all for now I guess.
If you are interested in the game then follow this devlog(if you can even do that) or something. Byee.
Yet to be titled Game, on a computer
Work for your country's dictatorship, to clean the web-space of scums speaking ill against your glorious leaders.
